Our Nappies
Modern reusable nappies have come a long way and our system consists of a highly absorbent prefold nappy, a funky waterproof outer wrap with Velcro fastening and a flushable liner.
Prefold Cotton Nappy
The prefold cotton nappy is the bit that we launder. It has multiple layers of pure cotton. They are designed to provide maximum absorbency with minimum bulk. Easy to fold, the nappy fits snugly inside a waterproof outer wrap.
Biodegradable flushable liner
This sheet rests between the nappy and your baby's skin to help prevent the nappy becoming soiled. For new babies you can cut the paper liner in half to fit neatly. Do not fold as this may prevent the moisture going through to the nappy. Always ensure the nappy is tucked well into the wrap to ensure no moisture is wicked through to your baby’s clothes.
Our liners can be flushed down the toilet with any solids or placed on your compost bins. We ask that you always use a liner with the nappies so we don’t get any nasty surprises when washing.
Waterproof outer wrap
Our nappy wraps are high quality, durable and easy to use. You can either buy or hire our wraps. We do recommend hiring wraps if you start the service whilst your baby is between sizes or if you have a newborn baby. Newborn babies grow so fast they will be out of the newborn wraps within a couple of weeks. Should you already have waterproof wraps the prefold nappies should fit into them just as well. The wrap is the most important part of the nappy system. If you are experiencing leaks do let us know and we will supply a different make of wrap. All babies come in different shapes and sizes and we have a range to fit them all !
The waterproof outer/wrap doesn’t need to be changed at every nappy change. Freshening them up with a wipe or a quick rinse in the bath at night is sometimes enough. When it comes to washing soiled wraps simply pop them in with your normal laundry. Please do not put our wraps in your tumble dryer or directly on a radiator to dry because it compromises the waterproof ability of the garment.
Then simply place your used nappies in the large nappy bin we provide or in a smaller bucket in the nursery before decanting the nappies into your larger bin. Although we recommend placing the larger bin outside or in an outhouse odour is not usually an issue. Cotton nappies do not trap smells. We have had customers put their large bin in the downstairs toilet and only noticed smells when the lid is briefly lifted to place the nappy inside.
Do not clean the nappies at all - just leave them in the bin where they will dry out.
