Eco Disposables
It is still not known how long a conventional disposable nappy will take to fully decompose as they have not been around long enough yet. It is estimated that it could be anything from 100 to 500 years!
Conventional disposable nappies also contain many chemicals which may have an effect upon our delicate babies’ skin as well as the environment.
Obviously we are really passionate about reusable nappies BUT and it’s a big BUT; as realistic parents we know there is a time and a place for the disposable nappy, but we feel it should be eco! Eco disposables are great for emergencies and out and about.
There are 2 different types of eco disposable now available, a normal eco nappy which fits the same as a conventional disposable or an eco disposable insert for nappy systems such as the Flip nappy by the makers of bumGenius. This option means you still have the convenience of a disposable but have a smaller item to store, carry around and to dispose of.
Eco disposables contain no bleach, perfumes or lotions and are made from a high percentage of biodegradable materials from certified sustainable resources.
Eco disposables are much better for the environment and much kinder to your baby's skin than conventional disposables. They are, therefore, highly recommended for babies with eczema and other skin conditions.
If you do choose to use eco disposable nappies then please remember to also use biodegradable nappy sacks otherwise disposing your nappy in a conventional plastic nappy sack will simply negate your good intentions!
